This collection of short stories is a live and a rich cultural reminiscence of the author's formative years at her birth place. Every story has an essence of Kashmiri tradition, customs and social ethos from times immemorial. They work as a stimulant in connecting the reader to the richness of Kashmir and still hold an inherent strength and essence for the progeny.
About Author:-
Kashmir being her first love; author, educator and a trainer, Avanti wrote Catching The Fading Ray, which is a collection of folk tales from her native place. They are a reflection of the rich cultural reminiscence of the author’s formative years at her birthplace. In her second book titled The Kashmir That Was, Avanti brought forth the by-gone times when Kashmir was romanticised. This book is a collection of flash back moments where the unseen, unheard, unimagined side of Kashmir converge to reveal a new facet of the erstwhile state, and it has been accepted very well by the readers. Her third book titled Ancient and Lost Temples of Kashmir, is a narration of the ruined and desolate temples of Kashmir. Through this work Avanti wishes to bring the focus on the cultural and historic loss of the ancient history of Kashmir. Avanti has been a part of various anthologies titled, Crossed and Knotted, Defiant Dreams, When They Spoke and The Readomania book of Mythology. Her opinion pieces are published on various online and offline platforms like, “Daily Excelsior”, “Women’s Web”, “Madras Courier”, and “Early Times”. She is a fellow at ‘The Way of Writing with Natalie Goldberg”. Currently she is working on two projects – the culinary culture of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh and the other project is on the challenges of a displaced adolescent. Writing to her is an unruffled world of her own, where her creations and people come to life. Researching on the cultural history of Kashmir is of particular interest to her.
