It studies the condition of health-related services in Jammu and Kashmir in its five chapters, namely The Jammu and Kashmir State Under the Dogras, Epidemics, Sanitation, Hospitals and Dispensaries in Jammu and Kashmir Provinces, and Hospitals and Dispensaries in the Frontier Territories. At the end of book, Appendices and Bibliography have been provided for ready references. Abbreviations of important terms are given for the ease of readers.To make the book an authentic representation of health condition in Jammu and Kashmir during 1858–1947, the data have been collected from the National Archives of India (New Delhi), Central Secretariat Library (New Delhi), State Archives Repository (Jammu), Sri Ranbir Singh Library (Jammu), and Central Library of the Jammu University.

About the Author :- Amar Singh Chohan, M.A. (History), Ph.D. (History), taught History to Postgraduate students at the P.G. Department of History, University of Jammu, Jammu Tawi. He was also involved in the Post-doctoral research. He is an expert on Dardistan and Ladakh regions. His previous books The Gilgit Agency  and Historical Study of Society and Culture in Dardistan and Ladakh are well received throughout the world.
