Her life took a dramatic turn at the tender age of eight when she, along with her community, was forced to flee the valley of Kashmir in 1990 due to the surge of terrorism. The shadow of fear that loomed over her childhood still sends shivers down her spine, and the loss of her cousin (CM Reshi) aged just 22, to terrorism and her Bua ji and Dada ji to the harsh conditions of Jammu post exodus are wounds that time has yet to heal. Despite these adversities, Deepashu’s spirit remained unbroken.
